With the Holiday season approaching, this could be the perfect opportunity to pick up a gift for yourself or the aspiring musician in your family. Let’s take a closer look at the deals currently available:

Sound Machines SD1 Simpledrum

The Simpledrum is a six-channel 6 HP digital drum module with kicks, snares, hats, toms, and more. This makes it a great module for your Eurorack system, as it’s versatile and doesn’t take up too much real estate.

With each channel, you can add reverb and accent for more expressive drum patterns, and there’s an additional scale-quantized synth voice that can be layered underneath your pitched percussion sounds.

Overall, the Simpledrum module is a useful addition to your Eurorack system and a great choice for those starting their journey into the world of modular synths.

Dato DUO

The Dato DUO lets you share your love of synthesizers with your kids in a way that allows two to operate it at once. The basic, but colourful interface is fun to use and makes it easy to understand the different parts of a synthesizer.

With the 8-step pattern sequencer on one side and the synth controls on the other, it’s just as exciting for either member of the synth team. What’s more, the DUO has built-in speakers and powers via USB so it’s easy to set up anywhere.

Although rather simplistic, the DUO still has glide, accent, and detune controls, as well as MIDI and Sync I/O. So you can easily connect it with your studio setup once you’ve finished the bedtime story.

Roland GAIA 2

The Roland GAIA 2 is a versatile digital synthesizer capable of combining wavetable synthesis with virtual analogue-style synthesis and so much more.

For a 37-key synth, it packs plenty of power, with 22-voice polyphony and three oscillators per voice. In addition, you have a multimode filter with filter drive and selectable filter slopes, as well as an assignable envelope for oscillator modulation.

The effects section gives you a range of 53 effects, and there is a 64-step pattern sequencer which gives you a different way to create basslines and melodic patterns. Does the GAIA 2 belong in our list of Access Virus Alternatives?

AKAI MPC Live II

The MPC Live II is AKAI’s famous beat creation station in a portable format. It comes equipped with a wealth of connectivity options including phono input, CV/Gate outputs, dual MIDI I/O, as well as Bluetooth, WiFi, and Ethernet.

With the onboard lithium-ion battery, you get up to 5 hours of use and the built-in speaker is handy for standalone operation. Apart from the 16 GB of internal storage, there is an SD card slot, a USB port, and a slot for installing an additional internal SSD.

The MPC Live II is a powerful standalone instrument, but you can also connect it to your Mac or PC with the MPC 2 software. Overall, it’s hard to find so much versatility in a sampler at this price.
