Ableton 11.2 with improved Reverb device and AUv3 for M1/M2 Macs
UPDATE (September 27, 2022): Today, Ableton Live 11.2 got released as a free update. It adds improvements to the Reverb device, which is available in every Live edition. The device has been overhauled with “a modernized UI, improved usability, and subtle sound improvements.”
Moreover, Live 11.2 introduces AUv3 plug-in support for Mac computers with Apple Silicon chips. These are the highlights for this update. The complete release notes and the download link are available here.
After close to 5 months spent in beta, the free Ableton Live 11.1 update with Apple Silicon support is now official. You heard it – Ableton Live now runs natively on the latest Macs. If you own Live 11, download and install the update from Ableton and enjoy the show!
I kinda envy you non-Intel folk. A harmless Ableton project makes my 2019 16-inch MBP go ‘whirrr’ in a matter of minutes. Apple really dropped the ball for a few years before it came back guns blazing. It’ll be a while before I get my Apple Silicon fix (’tis pricy), but at least I know what to look forward to.
Ableton Live 11.1
Anyway, Ableton Live 11.1 also includes a bunch of small, but tangible improvements. Think of the Shifter device with a new mode for real-time monophonic pitch shifting, as well as delay, envelopes, LFO, and glide functionality. Additionally, the update includes two new Max for Live utilities: Align Delay and Shaper MIDI. Align Delay is used for manual latency compensation while Shaper MIDI generates modulation data to make MIDI performances more expressive.
Clip View also gets useful updates. Clip properties are now displayed in tabs instead of individual panels, and you can access Clip View panels using keyboard shortcuts. The comping feature is also improved with new keyboard shortcuts for duplicating lanes, as well as new color options.
There’s actually plenty more where these came from, but I’d rather point you towards the release notes than paste them here like a chump.
It goes without saying that you need an Ableton Live 11 license to install the 11.1 update and have the DAW running natively on an M1 Mac. If you don’t own Live 11 and aren’t in a hurry, my advice is to wait around for a spring / early summer sale and grab yourself a bargain. Ableton does these regularly so you won’t be stuck waiting too long. Whenever some discounts come up, we’ll be sure to let you know.
