Guitar Gear Gems: Solar Chop Shop, 58 Flying V & a Flux Capacitor?
This week we take a look at the new Solar Chop Shop from Solar Guitars which is launching with the Blitz model. Then we check out this rare ‘Holy Grail’ Gibson 1958 Flying V which is going up for auction later this year. Finally, we check out the Spurr Audio Time Traveler Delay which aims to take us back to the future.
Solar Chop Shop
Solar Guitars’ Chop Shop has launched the AB1.6FR Blitz and AB1.6FR Black Blitz. Two new models, which have had 1000 volts of electricity passed through the alder bodies.
Floyd Rose
They also feature a roasted maple neck with 24 stainless steel frets. They come with either a roasted maple or an ebony fretboard, depending on what colour Blitz you opt for.
Hardware includes a set of Solar’s locking tuners, a Floyd Rose 1000 locking tremolo system and Luminlay side markers.
Chop Shop
The new Chop Shop is based in the ancient city of Girona in Catalunya, Spain and is where Ola Englund’s new custom guitars will be made. Therefore, we can expect some more outlandish-looking guitars in the near future.
MSRP – AB1.6FR Blitz and AB1.6FR Black Blitz USD 2299 each
If your budget won’t quite stretch this far, then you could opt for one of the Solar Guitars standard models instead.
As a basic A2.6 FR LN will only set you back €799 *.
Rare Gibson 1958 Flying V
Gardiner Houlgate will be auctioning one of the ‘Holy Grail’ Gibson solid body electric guitars, a 1958 Gibson Flying V.
Supposedly Gibson made 81 shipped in 1958 with a further 17 shipping in 1959, which makes these guitars a rare bird indeed.
You can read more about the history of these rare Flying V models here.
Original ’58
This one has had a few owners and was inspected by Doug Chandler of Chandler Guitars in 1990, who confirmed it is the real deal. It has had a few changes over the years, but should still reach a high price, as these are not models you see for sale very often.
The auction takes place on 5 September 2023.
Time Traveler Delay
Spürr Audio has announced their Time Traveler Delay pedal and it is heavily influenced by the Back To The Future film franchise.
Flux Capacitor
It is an analogue delay with a 500ms delay time and looks like the legendary Flux Capacitor from the film franchise. Engage the toggle switch to activate the flux capacitor, The delay itself also offers Oscillation and Infinite Repeats.
“Great Scott!”
There is an Analogue VU Meter, that reacts to how hard you play. The pedal has basic controls for Level, Time and Repeats.
I’d probably set mine to 1958 and go buy myself a few Gibson Flying Vs.
MSRP – USD 235
