Musikmesse 2019: Drawmer 1974 and 1976 stereo analog FET-based hardware processors
A little ahead of Musikmesse 2019 (2 – 5 April), British manufacturer Drawmer Electronics has introduced two new products which will be showcased at the fair. They belong to the company’s 1970s series of vintage-inspired FET units.
The products in question are the 1974 4-band Stereo Parametric EQ and 1976 Stereo 3-band Saturation & Width Processor. With pricing similar to Drawmer’s 1978 Stereo Tone Shaping FET Compressor (EUR 860), they might be of interest to engineers/producers looking for a bit of real analog character. Here’s more about each unit:
1974 4-band Stereo Parametric Equaliser
Offering one set of controls for both audio channels, the 1974 has 4 bands of EQ with variable Low/High Cut filters and fully variable bandwidth for the parametric mid-bands. There are switchable slopes and a low peak switch to home in on the low end of the spectrum. The potentiometers are indented for quicker and easier settings recall.
1976 Stereo 3-band Saturation & Width Processor
1976 is about analog saturation over three bands – Lows, Mids, and Highs. In addition to the enhancement provided by the saturation, their stereo width can be adjusted with a single set of controls – Saturate, Width, Level for the three bands and Crossover for the Low & High bands. Though a stereo unit, the 1976 can also operate in mono via a switch.
Price & Release date
Drawmer is “looking for a summer release” for both units, which are entirely designed and manufactured in the UK. Prices will be similar to the company’s 1978 FET Compressor (EUR 860). It’s certainly nice to have such a varied choice of sub-EUR 999 analog hardware these days.
