Tama Superstar and Imperialstar: New Drum Kits for the Anniversary!
Even the Starclassic gets a new edition!
Tama turns 50 and celebrates it with a bang! The Japanese drum specialists present several new drum kits with anniversary releases of the legendary Tama Superstar, Tama Imperialstar, and even a special edition of the Tama Starclassic. In addition to their new snare drums, they have added quite a few extras to the limited edition. Let’s take a look.
Tama Superstar: One new classic kit and three anniversary finishes!
The Tama Superstar series is one of the most popular ones from the drum company. Released in 1976, revamped in 2005, this series has something for everyone. And since Tama celebrates 50 Years since its founding in 1974, they have released a new finish for the Classic series and a variety of finishes in the 50th Anniversary series of Superstar.
The popular Tama Superstar Classic series gets an addition with a very natural-looking “Gloss Natural Blonde” finish. In terms of shell sizes, this kit comes with a 22″x16″ bass drum, a 10″x07″, two rack toms sized 10″x07″ and 12″x08″ respectively, a floor tom at 16″x14″ and a 14″x6,5″ snare drum. In addition to the all-maple kit, Tama’s SM5W Hardware pack with a pedal, a Hi-hat machine, a snare stand and two boom stands is included. The Tama Superstar Classic Kit 22 GNL* is priced at 874 GBP.
Furthermore, the Tama Superstar 50th Anniversary Limited Reissue Sets is an all-birch set, available at Thomann* in three finishes at 1,666 GBP. This 6-ply/9mm shell set goes back to the beginning of the series which also came out as an all-birch kit. It includes a 22″x14″ bass drum, two rack toms coming in at 10″x08″ and 12″x08″ respectively and a 16″x16″ floor tom – no snare included! All four finishes are available at Thomann: Turquoise*, Red*, Nature*, and Brown*.
Tama Imperialstar and Starclassic: A new kit on the block!
Besides the Tama Superstar additions, a new configuration is also available for the Imperialstar series. With the best name, a finish in any instrument could possibly ever come with – “BOB” – this drum kit comes with a 20″x16″ bass drum, a 14″x12″ floor tom, 10″x07″ tom, 14″x05″ snare drum, and two rack toms at 10″x07″ and 12″x08″. In addition, there are a hardware package and three cymbals from Meinl included – available at Thomann* for 915 GBP.
And finally, just as limited as the Superstar releases, here come the 80s with a new Tama Starclassic Mirage. These transparent shells are bound to catch a lot of envious glances!
The kit comes with four toms: two-floor toms at 14″x12″ and 16″x14″, two rack toms at 10″x07″ and 12″x08″, and a bass drum at 22″x16″. Black nickel hardware, acrylic shells (BD 6,5mm, TT/FT 5,5mm), and two 2x MC69 single tom holders to mount the rack toms onto cymbal stands are also part of the bundle – the snare*, however, is not. This limited edition drum kit costs 2,090 GBP at Thomann*.
