The holiday season is here, so it’s the perfect time to get your hands on some new studio toys. Let’s take a closer look at the offers currently available:

KRK GoAux 4

When you need a portable workstation for recording, mixing, or auditioning tracks for your next DJ set, the KRK GoAux 4 gives you a complete solution that doesn’t cost the earth.

The 4-inch Woofers (33 Watt) and 1-inch tweeters (17 Watt) deliver up to 98.5 dB SPL, which is perfect for that late-night after-party back at the hotel.

The GoAux series includes a measurement microphone and features automatic room correction for dealing with less-than-ideal listening environments. You can connect to them via TRS, RCA, minijack, or Bluetooth 5.0.

BOSS RC-505 MKII

Looping presents an organic method to perform or create music, but the Boss RC-505 MKII provides a workstation-like platform for creating loop-based music. What’s more, it can also be used as a multi-effects unit.

The RC-505 MKII has five stereo loop channels, each with its own processing capabilities. In addition, it offers 32-bit 44.1 kHz recording and functions as a USB audio interface with MIDI I/O.

Overall, with 53 different effects types, a range of over 200 rhythm patterns, and 16 drum kits, the RC-505 MKII offers an amazing level of creative versatility and value.

Elysia xFilter 500

The Elysia xFilter 500 is a stereo EQ module for the 500-series format. The xFilter can be used for ultra-clean surgical tweaks during mixing, or adding subtle colouration and shaping while tracking.

Potentiometers are stepped, so your settings won’t change mysteriously overnight and the two parametric midrange bands have a switchable Q factor for added versatility.

The xFilter also has an additional passive high band and the module can be used in mono or stereo with a true stereo link for accurate bus processing of drums, guitars, vocals, synths, and the master output.

RME Fireface 802 FS

The RME Fireface 802 FS is the latest version of RME’s trusty 30 in/30 out studio interface. It features 24-bit 192 kHz recording, SteadyClock FS technology with ICC (Intelligent Clock Control), and DC-coupled analogue outputs with CV/Gate voltage control.

However, one of the most useful features of the 802 by far is the preamps. With loads of discrete gain, you can get the most out of new and old dynamics, ribbons, and condensers without the immediate need for additional standalone preamps.

Connectivity-wise, the 802 FS includes AES/EBU, ADAT, and Word clock I/O, and all the routing is easy to manage via the TotalMix FX software. Until January 31 you get Celemony Melodyne 5 essential as an added bonus.

DOCtron IMC

Now also available in 500-series format, the DOCtron IMC is designed in collaboration with minimalist techno artist, Martin Stimming. With his Instant Mastering Chain, you have Trident-style EQ, API-style compression, and Lundahl transformer saturation in a single portable box.

Designed for live electronic musicians, the IMC adds that final glue to your master bus, creating a thicker, tastier sound that will be much easier to digest when it’s thumping through the venue PA system.

You have plenty of control to shape the sound and be as subtle or aggressive as you like. Meanwhile, the EQ and compressor can be bypassed, and you can choose between feed-forward and feed-back compression types.
