Mooer amps up the Hornet’s power to 30 Watts
New larger Hornet modelling amp from Mooer
When Mooer launched its Hornet modelling amp in November 2019, we were quite taken with the features on offer at its modest price point. Mooer has now launched a bigger Hornet model with more grunt, rated at 30 Watts and equipped with larger speaker than the previous 15W edition. Will the bigger sound of the 30W version be more appealing for home use?
Mooer Hornet 30W
Like its predecessor, the Hornet 30W is designed around Mooer’s amp modelling tech, with 9 digital replicas of popular amplifiers for electric guitars. Also included are three effects, modulation, delay and reverb, as well as two operating modes, live and preset. Instead of the 6″ speaker of the previous 15-Watt version, the 30-Watt amp comes loaded with an 8″ speaker.
Bluetooth and more
With 9 user presets, a built-in tuner, an AUX input as well as a wireless Bluetooth connection and headphone output, the Hornet 30W has all the functions you’re looking for in a practice amplifier for your living room or small rehearsal room. Thanks to the integrated handle and the low weight of only 4 kg, it should be easy to move around. Power is supplied via the included 24V DC power supply.
Budget Bargain?
Given the good reviews the original 15W Hornet achieved (4.6/5 on Thomann), this larger version should be decent little amp for home use. The larger speaker will hopefully give it a fuller sound in the lower registers. There are already a lot of home guitar amps, though, so the market is quite crowded. But it is always nice to have more choice, and this little amp comes in black or white, both with a retro-styling that may fit in nicely with your home decor.
