Gretsch John Gourley Broadkaster – Portugal. The Man signature model
Another limited edition signature Gretsch guitar announced
The Gretsch John Gourley Broadkaster follows on from the recent boygenius release at the end of last month. This limited edition model for ‘Portugal. The Man‘ guitarist is another affordable, yet unique signature guitar.
John Gourley Broadkaster
This latest limited edition Gretsch release, they state, was inspired by Gourley’s exploration across different styles of music. The John Gourley Electromatic Broadkaster has been created as it can produce a sound that can adapt to any genre, from indie to country, to rock. Gourley is the vocalist and guitarist with the Grammy-winning band, Portugal. The Man, and is known for covering a lot of styles within the band. He is also a long-time fan of Gretsch which he talks about in the accompanying product video.
“The first time I heard a Gretsch was when I walked into a guitar shop in Memphis and I knew instantly that that was the sound I’ve been looking for this whole time. It was such a cool experience when I finally got to design my own,” explains John Gourley
Bigsby
This new signature semi-hollow model has all the classic Gretsch appointments. These include a Bigby B70 vibrato system fitted to the double-cutaway maple body that features a chambered spruce centre block. It is also a thinner body design, so should feel comfortable to play.
The guitar comes with a thin U-shaped maple neck with a 12”-radius laurel fretboard fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid “cloud” inlays.
This model comes with an Anchored Adjusto-Matic bridge to complement the Bigsby, plus a Graph Tech NuBone nut, and locking tuners to help aid tuning stability. Along with a set of strap locks.
Full’Tron
It comes fitted with a set of USA Full’Tron humbucking pickups. These are controlled by a master volume with a treble bleed circuit, master tone, individual pickup volume controls, and a three-position pickup selector switch.
Cleon Peterson
This guitar comes in an Iridescent Black finish with silver sparkle binding, and nickel hardware throughout. It looks very nice and has a subtle sparkle that works nicely for this guitar shape.
Then there is some nice subtle exclusive artwork by Cleon Peterson including those “cloud” fretboard inlays, the bespoke truss rod cover and metal head badge, plus the graphic on the pickguard,
Overall, a very nice-looking instrument and it could be a great buy for anyone on the market for a new Gretsch.
